This policy explains what information SaveTheDeposit.com collects when you visit, why it’s collected, and what you can do about it. I’ve tried to write it in plain English rather than the usual wall of defined terms, because a privacy policy nobody can read isn’t doing its job.
SaveTheDeposit.com is operated by Yavuz Yasin Çetinkaya, Ankara, Türkiye (“we,” “us,” or “I”). For the purposes of the UK and EU GDPR, Yavuz Yasin Çetinkaya is the data controller for this site. Contact details are at the bottom of this page, and you’re welcome to use them for any privacy question.
The short version
This site doesn’t sell your personal information. It doesn’t require an account. It doesn’t ask for your name or address to read an article.
What it does do: log basic analytics about how people use the site — only if you’ve agreed to it — use affiliate links that tell Amazon a visitor came from here, and store your comment and email address if you choose to leave one.
Information collected automatically
Like nearly every website, this one collects some technical information whenever a page loads. This happens without you entering anything.
- Your IP address, in truncated or anonymized form where the tools allow it
- Browser type and version, operating system, and device category
- The page you’re viewing, the page you arrived from, and how long you stayed
- Approximate location at the city or region level, derived from your IP address — never a precise location
This information is used in aggregate to understand which articles are useful and which aren’t, and to fix things that are broken. It isn’t used to build a profile of you as an individual.
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics 4 to measure traffic, and it only runs if you’ve consented through the cookie banner. Analytics providers set cookies or use similar technologies to distinguish one visit from another. You can opt out of Google Analytics specifically using the browser add-on Google provides, or by blocking analytics scripts in your browser or an extension.
Information you provide
Comments
If you leave a comment, the form collects the comment text, the name and email address you enter, and your IP address. The name you choose is published with the comment. Your email address is not published — it’s used to identify you as a returning commenter and, if necessary, to reply to you directly.
Comments are stored by WordPress and checked for spam by Akismet (Automattic Inc.), which means the comment text, your name, email address, IP address, and browser details are sent to that service for analysis. Comments and their metadata may be retained indefinitely so that follow-up replies stay readable in context.
Contact form
Messages sent through the contact form or by email are stored so the conversation can be continued. They aren’t added to any mailing list.
Affiliate links and how they work
SaveTheDeposit.com is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. The site may participate in other affiliate programs on the same basis.
When you click an affiliate link, a tag identifying this site travels with you to the retailer, and the retailer sets a cookie so that a purchase made within a certain window is credited here. This is how the site is funded. It costs you nothing extra — the price you pay is the same as it would be if you’d typed the address in yourself.
What I receive from Amazon is aggregate reporting: how many people clicked, what categories of product were bought, and what the commission was. I don’t receive your name, your address, your payment details, or any way to connect a purchase to a specific visitor. Once you’re on the retailer’s site, their privacy policy governs what happens, not this one.
Editorial independence: which products appear on this site and how they’re described is not determined by commission rates, and some recommendations carry no affiliate link at all. Where a product is one I’d tell you not to buy, the link is left off deliberately.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This site’s cookies fall into a few groups.
| Type | What it’s for | Set by | Needs consent? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | Core site function, security, and remembering your cookie choices | This site | No |
| Comment | Saving your name and email so you don’t retype them | WordPress, only if you comment | Set by your own action |
| Analytics | Distinguishing one visit from another for traffic measurement | Google Analytics 4 | Yes |
| Affiliate | Attributing a purchase to the referring site | Amazon and other retailers | Yes |
Non-essential cookies — analytics and affiliate — are only set after you’ve made a choice through the consent banner. You can change or withdraw that choice at any time using the cookie preferences link in the site footer, and analytics does not run before consent is given. Separately, you can delete existing cookies and block future ones through your browser settings. Blocking analytics and affiliate cookies won’t affect your ability to read anything here.
This policy explains what the cookies do; it isn’t a substitute for that choice, which is why the banner exists.
Embedded content from other sites
Articles may include embedded content such as videos or images hosted elsewhere. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited that other website — meaning the third party may collect data about you, use cookies, and track your interaction with the embed. This site has no control over that, and their policies apply.
Who your information is shared with
Personal information is not sold, rented, or traded. It’s shared only with the service providers needed to run the site, and each processes it only to provide that service:
- Hostinger International Ltd. — web hosting and server logs
- Google (Google Analytics 4) — traffic measurement, subject to your consent
- Akismet (Automattic Inc.) — comment spam filtering
Some of these providers are based in the United States. Where data is transferred out of the UK or EEA, that transfer relies on the provider’s own safeguards, typically Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent approved mechanism.
Information may also be disclosed where required by law, or to protect the site’s legal rights.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have specific rights over your personal information. Rather than sort out which apply to you, the site’s practice is to honor these requests from anyone who asks:
- Access — a copy of the personal data held about you
- Correction — fixing anything inaccurate
- Deletion — erasing your data, subject to any legal obligation to keep it
- Opt out — objecting to analytics collection, or blocking cookies in your browser
If you’re in California
The CCPA and CPRA give California residents rights over their personal information, including the right to know what’s collected, the right to request deletion, and the right to opt out of its sale or sharing. Note that “sharing” has a specific meaning under California law — it refers to disclosure for cross-context behavioral advertising, not to sharing in the everyday sense.
Based on the services currently used on this site, SaveTheDeposit.com does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined by California law. If that changes — for example if advertising or retargeting technology is added — this policy will be updated before those tools go live.
This site is small enough that the CCPA’s thresholds may not apply to it at all. The rights described here are offered voluntarily regardless, and you will not be treated differently for exercising any of them.
If you’re in the EEA or UK
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, the legal bases are separated as follows. Consent covers analytics and every other non-essential cookie or similar technology — these do not run before you’ve made a choice. Legitimate interests covers site security and limited server-side operational processing, such as access logs kept to detect abuse and keep the site running. Legal obligation applies where the law requires retention or disclosure. Alongside the rights listed above you have the right to data portability, the right to restrict processing, the right to withdraw consent at any time, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
How long information is kept
Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so that conversations remain intact — you can request deletion of your own comments at any time.
Analytics data is retained for 2 months, after which Google deletes the user-level and event-level data associated with it. This is the shortest retention period Google offers. Aggregate reports are not affected.
Contact messages are generally deleted within 12 months after the conversation ends, unless they need to be retained for legal or administrative reasons.
Server access logs are kept for a short operational period for security purposes and then discarded.
Children
This site is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. Personal information is not knowingly collected from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information here, contact us and it will be deleted.
Security
Reasonable measures are taken to protect the information collected, including encrypted connections and access controls on the site’s administration. No method of transmission or storage on the internet is completely secure, and absolute security can’t be guaranteed.
Links to other sites
Articles link to retailers, manufacturers, and other publications. Once you follow a link off this site, this policy no longer applies and the destination’s own policy takes over. Reading their policies is worth the two minutes, particularly for retailers.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated as the site changes — if a new tool is added, or a new legal requirement applies. The date at the top always reflects the current version. Material changes will be noted on the site rather than made quietly.
